GreenGo Energy said that the Megaton project would be based in the Ringkobing-Skjern municipality, consisting of solar and wind energy which would be used to produce 1 million tonnes annually of hydrogen or ammonia. The project could be operational before 2030.

The 4 GW will stem from GreenGo’s existing solar and wind projects in the municipality, in addition to 2 GW of offshore wind it plans to develop.

GreenGo said that combined, these units will generate 11.5 TWh annually, corresponding to 30 per cent of Denmark’s current total power consumption. It added that the green fuel production will consume 85 per cent of the expected power generation.
