Delhi Power Minister, Satyendar Jain, has stated that the AAP government has set a target of generating 1000 MW of solar power in the next five years.
According to Jain, drastic increases in the costs of conventional power has made solar power the "only option" in future.
"Our government has set a target of generating 1000 MW of solar power in the next five years. In the first year, our target is of generating 20-40 MW of solar power and in the second year, we will achieve a target of 100 MW and in the next year, our target will be 200 MW. Similarly, our government aims to generate 400 MW of solar power in the fourth year and thereafter, we will then extend our target."
The Minister also said that solar power rates have been comparable with conventional power recently and he hoped that they would decrease.
"We hope that there will be a decline in the rates of solar power in the future. The rates of solar power will be three times less compared to conventional power rates in terms of capital cost."
