Rosatom has announced that construction work has started on units 5 and 6 of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant (KKNPP) in India with the first pouring of concrete into the foundation plate of the reactor building. When complete, the plant will consist of 6 units, each of 1000 MW. Units 1 and 2 are already operating. Units 3 and 4 are scheduled to start operations by 2027.
Rosatom is providing the technology for the construction of the plant.
India and Russia have an agreement to build 12 new nuclear plants in India by 2035.
