During October, construction of thermal power generation capacity in China was down by 21.22 GW (24.9 per cent) from the same period a year ago.
The scale of new power generation construction projects during the first 10 months also fell 13.22 GW, year-on-year.
China has managed to install 60.37 GW of new power generation capacity during the first 10 months of 2011 though, an increase of 3.66 GW compared to the same period last year, according the China Electricity Council.
Power generation capacity added in the third quarter also increased 3.3 GW, year-on-year.
The capacity of power generation equipment 6000 kW and above rose 10.5 per cent year-on-year during the first 10 months, according to the China Electricity Council. The growth rate was lower than the growth in national power production by 1.8 per cent.
During the same period, the capacity of thermal power generation equipment 6000 kW and above increased 9.1 per cent year-on-year. The growth rate lagged that of national thermal power production by 5.2 per cent.
This indicated that the growth rate of installed power generation capacity is lower than that of power production, according to the report.
During the first 10 months, the power produced from large-scale hydropower plants totalled 517.5 billion kWh, down 2.2 per cent, year-on-year, the first year-on-year decline for the same period since 2005.
