The Belo Monte hydroelectric dam, which should be completed in January 2019 with a capacity of 11 233 MW, will be the third largest in the world. This mirrors Brazil’s capacity hydropower, which also ranks third in the world – and nearly 80 per cent of the consumed energy in the country comes from hydro plants.
Since it entered the Brazilian market in 2010, the SGCC is now the fourth largest electricity transmission system operator in the country. It also has $9.8 billion dollars worth of power transmission projects in countries like the Philippines, Brazil, Australia, Italy and Hong Kong.
