Xie Zhenhua, Vice Minister of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), said at the Eco-Forum Global (EFG) 2011 conference that China would set up a pilot carbon trading scheme, although details of the form the scheme would take were still under discussion.

Reports suggest that the first city-wide trials of the emissions trading scheme could be in place from 2013. Few details on how the scheme would work have yet been made public, but Xie’s comments do suggest that plans for a pilot scheme are progressing.

In addition, he said that China will speed up establishment of a standardised system for energy saving and environmental protection. Xie said that China will continue to boost financial support for green energy and manage growth in energy-intensive industries.
