In 2015, China’s electric power generation fell for the first time since 1968, as the country’s economic slowdown hit major industrial consumers, according to official data. China generated 5,628 TWh of power in 2015, down 0.2 per cent from the previous year, according to data from China’s National Bureau of Statistics .
Utilisation rates at thermal power plants stood at a record low in 2015, and estimates suggest that there was a capacity surplus of 200 GW.
