Capital Power Generation has cancelled a C$2.4 billion carbon capture and storage (CCS) project at its Genesee Generating Station in Alberta, Canada, stating that it is: “Technically viable but not economically feasible.”
The project aimed to capture and sequester up to 3 million tons of CO2 emissions from the power plant, which is in the process of being converted from coal to natural gas.
Capital Power Generation described the conversion of Genesee from coal to natural gas as part of its decarbonisation effort, having set itself a goal to be carbon neutral by 2045.
