The project is being constructed by the Nachtigal Hydro Company (NHPC), which will build the dam 65 km north of Yaounde. It is a joint venture between the French state-controlled utility EDF (30 per cent), the Cameroonian government (40 per cent) and the World Bank’s private sector lender, the International Finance Corporation (30 per cent).

Cameroon currently produces around 1200 MW from hydropower.
