Cambodia’s Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) has announced that the country is on course to achieve its target of 70 per cent of power generated from renewable energy by 2030.
Natharoun Ngo Son, Cambodia Country Director of EnergyLab, said that power generation projects with a total capacity of around 6 GW have been planned by MME by 2029. He said: “Thirteen new power generation projects totalling 1275 MW were announced at the end of 2024.”
Natharoun said that Cambodia currently generates about 50 per cent of its electricity from renewable sources, and that the government’s target is to reach 70 per cent by 2030 and carbon neutral by 2050.
