In its plan, published in the report: “Reliable Power for a Renewable Future”, the California ISO notes that greater use of distributed generation, energy storage, and smart grid developments are increasingly affecting grid and market operations. The California ISO said that the sum of these changes represents the industry’s most significant challenges in the past 100 years.

Steve Berberich, CEO of the California ISO, said: “The challenging but rewarding path to achieve a more sustainable future is not ours alone, and will require deep collaboration within the electricity industry as well as a commitment to maintaining a high level of reliability. The new strategic approaches we outline in our plan address those needs and will help transition to the energy resource of tomorrow.”
