Bruce Power awards $914 million in manufacturing contracts for major component replacement project

Bruce Power in Ontario, Canada has signed advanced manufacturing contracts worth $914 million for its Major Components Replacement project, which commences in 2020. The company said that this will allow the site to continue to generate low-cost, carbon-free electricity through to 2064.

Mike Rencheck, President and CEO of Bruce Power, said: “By signing these contracts, we have secured ‘Made in Ontario’ solutions for the components we will need to successfully complete our MCR Projects, extending the life of our site to 2064. The announcement represents a $914 million investment in Ontario’s highly skilled workforce, which will create untold economic opportunities for the communities in which they will operate for many years to come.”

The MCR Project agreements include:

  • $642 million to BWXT Canada for the manufacture of 32 steam generators to be produced at BWXT’s Cambridge, Ontario facility.
  • $144 million to Laker Energy Products for end fittings, liners, and flow elements which will be manufactured at its Oakville, Ontario facility.
  • $62 million to Cameco Fuel Manufacturing in Cobourg, Ontario, for calandria tubes and annulus spacers for all six MCRs.
  • $66 million for Nu-Tech Precision Metals, in Arnprior, Ontario, for the production of zirconium alloy pressure tubes for Units 3 and 6.
