Britain’s National Grid cancels emergency power reserve tender

Britain’s power grid operator National Grid has cancelled the emergency power reserve tender, in which companies agree to be paid not to use electricity at peak times during the coming winter, to enable power to be diverted to households. National Grid cited a shortage of willing participants as the reason for the cancellation.

National Grid can procure extra generation capacity through a separate scheme that pays power plants to be available on standby.
