The Indian state of Karnataka had a major blackout on Monday as all seven units of the Raichur Thermal Power Station (RTPS) tripped due to a technical problem on Monday morning. A senior official of the Karnataka Power Corporation Limited (KPCL) said: “There was a circuit problem in one of the units. In order to identify and isolate the unit, we had to shut down all the units.” He added that this resulted in a cascading effect throughout the state. The entire state recorded a shortage of around 1500MW. He added: “After we identify and isolate the problem unit, we will resume the other units one by one.”
