Avangrid asks for Commonwealth Wind PPAs to be dismissed

Avangrid , the developer of the 1223 MW offshore wind farm Commonwealth Wind in Massachusetts, USA, has asked state regulators to dismiss the PPAs tied to the wind farm.

Avangrid cited economic conditions such as supply chain disruptions, inflation, rising interest rates, and cost increases for offshore wind equipment. Avangrid said that the project “cannot be financed and built under the current PPAs.” Avangrid said it planned to re-bid the project in an upcoming solicitation in April 2023.

Commonwealth Wind, to be located 20 miles south of Martha’s Vineyard, was targeted to reach commercial operation in 2028.
