AMEA Power , a subsidiary of UAE-based Al Nowais Investments , has announced the official commissioning of its 50 MW solar PV plant in Blitta, Togo. This is Togo’s first utility-scale renewable energy project developed by an IPP and is one of the largest solar PV IPP plants in West Africa.
The Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed PV plant was delivered with just 18 months between the signing of the PPA and the start of commercial operations. The plant is located around 270 km from Lomé, Togo’s capital, and has a planned production of over 90 000 MWh per year.
AMEA Togo Solar will operate the plant for 25 years, claiming it will save over 1 million tonnes of CO2 emissions over the course of its operational life. The project was supported with concessional loans from the West African Development Bank (BOAD) and the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD).
