Since entering China, Aggreko has been involved in several major industrial projects and an increasing number of projects.

Kelvin Lam, general manager of Aggreko in China, said that the British company is ready to increase its Chinese operation, building on the three service centres it already runs.

"Although China's economic growth rate appears to be slowing a bit, the power rental business remains very promising," said Lam.

Aggreko’s business in China is split into two parts, one for specialised industrial services to various sectors such as oil and gas, shipbuilding, petrochemicals and mining, and another providing power supply deals to businesses of all kinds.

Projects have included supplying and operating power supply to shipbuilding projects in Northeast China's Dalian, and generators, transformers, bulk fuel tanks, a control room and consumables to a major copper mine project in southwest Yunnan province.

"The concept of power rental is relatively new in China, but we believe there is great demand for it here in China," said Lam.

Many Chinese companies tend to buy their own equipment if there's shortage of power, but the high capital costs and need for qualified staff means rental can be more economic for short to medium periods.
