The 2.2GW Son My 2 CCGT project, located in Binh Thuan province, is scheduled to come online in 2024. The plant is planned to have three 750MW generating units.

Andrés Gluski, President and CEO of AES, said: “AES is committed to the country’s economic growth and energy transition through the development of gas and renewable infrastructure. We appreciate that the Government of Vietnam has selected us to advance this critical project for the country.”

AES had earlier announced that it would supply natural gas for the plant from its 450TBtu Son My LNG import and storage terminal, which was approved by the Vietnam Government in August. The terminal is expected to begin commercial operation in 2022.
