AES acquires 612 MW New York wind portfolio

US power generation group AES Corp has announced that it has acquired Valcour Wind Energy from investment firm Carlyle. Valcour has a 612 MW portfolio of wind farms in New York state, consisting of six sites. These account for around 25 per cent of the state’s wind power generation capacity. Three of the plants, 279 MW in total, are located in Clinton County; two farms with a combined capacity of 227 MW are in Wyoming County, and a 106 MW wind park is in Franklin County.

The value of the acquisition has not been released.

The wind farms have been operated, maintained, and managed by Cogentrix Energy . These responsibilities will now be transferred to AES.

Leo Moreno, President of AES Clean Energy, said: “This wind portfolio complements our 1 GW solar pipeline in the state, allowing us to provide custom offerings such as our 24/7 product to realize a carbon-free energy grid.” He added that the Valcour portfolio offers significant opportunity for repowering.
