International Power Canada (IPC) has announced that construction has started at the $50 million Brockville Solar project in Leeds County, Ontario. The project, developed under Ontario’s Feed-In Tariff (FIT) Programme, will have an installed capacity of 10 MW. The project is expected to start operating in early 2013.
IPC and its affiliates currently operate 362 MW of wind-powered and 112 MW of natural gas fired power generation facilities. The Brockville project is IPC’s first solar project.
Mike Crawley, President of IPC, said: “With Brockville, IPC is diversifying our technology base and entering a new and exciting business area. We hope this is the first of many solar projects in our portfolio.”
The AMEC Black & McDonald Joint Venture has been appointed as the EPC contractor for the project, and the solar modules will be supplied by Suntech.
