Tlou Energy is constructing a coal bed methane (CBM) extraction and power generation plant at Lesedi in Botswana. A 66 kV transmission line and associated substations will connect the plant to the Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) grid at Serowe. The grid connection project is divided into two project parts; the 66 kV overhead transmission line, and the substation works at both ends of the line.

The 66 kV transmission line construction contract was awarded to Zismo Engineering. Work is scheduled to be completed by August 2023. The substation works tender was awarded to OptiPower, a division of Murray & Roberts. The substation contract has not yet been signed.

The Lesedi Power Project is approximately 100 km from the existing grid, and the 66 kV transmission line will connect the two. The transmission line will be capable of carrying 25 MW. Initial electricity generated will be sold to Botswana Power Corporation, the national power utility, under an agreed 10 MW PPA.
