PT Medco Power Generation Indonesia, a subsidiary of PT Medco Energi International, has proposed construction of three gas-fired power plants in Indonesia, one of which will be built in Kuala Langsa. Lukman Mahfoedz, President Director of Medco Power, said: “Contractors with gas reserves can establish IPPs and sell electricity.” Lukman said Medco will also develop gas-fired power plants in Senoro and Simenggaris.

Ignatius Jonan, the Indonesian Minister for Energy and Mineral Resources, said power plant development must be based on energy resources available in the respective areas. He said that this was imperative to reduce power generation costs.
